The new mobile app, “Live Walk PTY”, provides a new and exciting way to see the historic sites in Casco Antiguo. It offers a personalized tour, with audio and images, which tells events of the past, the places where they occurred and the protagonists.
The project seeks to encourage walking tours, while strengthening the ties between the younger generation and the events that shaped the nation’s history. “Live Walk PTY” has the support of the writer, Rafael Ruiloba, a history and literature professor of the University of Panama.
The app works through a GPS system that automatically plays back the recording when you are in the selected historical site. It also has the option to follow a suggested route or you can create your own, as it has a geo-referenced map. The users can share their own photos with other users of the app.
Robert and Elizabeth Hurtado, the brains behind this project, tell the story of Panama in an entertaining way. “It’s like a good friend telling you historical trivia” says Roberto.
“As you stroll through the town, different characters tell the story of the National Theater, El Palacio de Las Garzas or Las Bovedas, taking you to another time,” said Elizabeth.
Recordings used for this tour, were made by a team of six Panamanian stage actors who, together with developers, theater directors, sound engineers, programmers, photographers and designers, worked to achieve entertaining and dynamic material showing the history of the Casco Antiguo.
The application has a free version available for smartphones with IOS and can be downloaded in the Apple App Store. The paid version with all the descriptions of the tour is available for $ 2.99. The app will be sold for Android in 2016.
